Promotion

Artifact Promotion means, moving or copying an artifact from one repository to another. Typically this is done when the artifact changes its control state(different environments, which have different permission models to ensure artifacts are not deployed prematurely).

Promotion can be done in different ways with simple way of "artifact tagging" or "passing through quality and security gates". An artifact might be copied or moved through different environments like "sandbox", "dev", “qa”, “stg”, “prod”, "archive".

Archive maturity type repository - When an artifact retires, or when it triggers certain regulatory requirements for retention, the artifact and possibly all its dependencies can move to “archive”.
